About us

In 2003, a consortium of the major stakeholder from regionally based enterprises and local authorities founded a public private partnership - the Wernigerode Economic Development Corporation (Wernigerode AG) in order to foster jointly regional economic delvelopment in the former district of Wernigerode. When the former districts of Wernigerode, Halberstadt and Quedlinburg merged to become the Harz District in 2007, the Wernigerode AG was renamed in Harz AG - Initiative Wachstumsregion.

The Harz AG acts as a central mediator between regionally based companies, research institutes, municipal economic developersand other important stakeholders. The companie's task is to stimulate economic growth and entrepreneurialism as well as to develop new strategies that strengthen the economic conditions of the Harz District by carrying out projects which are mainly assigned to the following areas of economic development: Education and Employment, Innovation and Technology, Tourism, Economic promotion of  Small and medium sized enterprises.
